The Spike Factory
The Spike Factory is the most defensive tower in the Bloons TD franchise. Unlike other towers that attempt to stop bloons mid-track, the Spike Factory is designed to exist at the very end of the track. It acts as a final layer of defense—the "Fail-Safe"—against any bloons that manage to sneak past your active defenses.
The Strategy of Minimalist Insurance
In a minimalist strategy, you rarely have the luxury of perfectly defending every single bloon. Leaks are inevitable. The Spike Factory allows you to absorb these leaks without losing lives. By placing a Perma-Spike at the exit, you create a permanent barrier that can clear up missed ceramics or MOABs. This tower essentially allows you to build a leaner, more "offense-heavy" primary defense, knowing the Spike Factory will handle the cleanup.
Why Placement is Everything
Placement is binary for the Spike Factory: it should always be as close to the track exit as possible. Placing it in the middle of the track is a waste of its longevity; its purpose is to be the last thing a bloon sees. Additionally, because spikes remain on the track for a finite amount of time, pairing the Spike Factory with a Monkey Village (for range and attack speed) significantly increases the density of the spike pile at the exit.
Strategic Synergies
- Economic Safety Net: Allows for more aggressive Banana Farm investments, as the Spike Factory covers for minor defensive gaps.
- Buff Infrastructure: Pair with Monkey Village (Jungle Drums) and Alchemist (Stronger Stimulant) to drastically increase spike production rate and pile density at the track exit.
- Defensive Pairing: Often combined with Glue Gunner (MOAB Glue) or Ice Monkey (Icicle Impale) near the exit, ensuring that any bloons slowed by these units are efficiently eliminated by the Spike Factory before reaching the exit.
